Valencia CF chasing first win at the Wanda
Upon the conclusion of the latest international break, which saw nine squad members travel with their respective countries, the Valencia CF first team squad are turning their focus to one of the biggest matches of the season so far. It takes place on Saturday at 4pm local time, and comes with a challenge: Beating Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano for the first time.
The stadium is the only ground in LaLiga at which VCF have yet to taste victory. Since its inauguration on September 16th, 2017, the team have played there twice. In 2017/18 they lost 1-0, and on a rainy evening last season they fell 3-2 to 'Los Colchoneros.'
The most recent win over Atletico Madrid away from home was on February 12th, 2011, with two goals from Joaquin at the Vicente Calderón. The longest run without victory away for the club is on their visits to the Santiago Bernabéu, where they have not claimed the three points since March 23rd, 2008.
This season, Valencia CF have made a habit of conquering new territory. Wins at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in the Champions League, and at the new San Mamés against Athletic Club in LaLiga, have seen some of the team's best performances. They want it to be a case of 'third time lucky' this weekend.
